RIP Carrie Fisher

Movies4Kids is incredibly sad to learn that Carrie Fisher, writer, actress and one of the wittiest women in Hollywood, has died aged 60. She will, of course, always be remembered as Princess Leia, the smart, tough-talking rebel from the original Star Wars trilogy and 2016’s The Force Awakens, but she gave so much more to the movie world, from comic performances in movies like Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back and The ‘Burbs to her written work such as the recent The Princess Diarist and the legendary Postcards From The Edge.

Movies4Kids was lucky enough to attend the Star Wars: The Force Awakens press conference in December 2016 that featured Carrie (the funniest, brightest and sharpest on the panel) alongside costars like Harrison Ford, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, and you can read the report of the day below:

And watch below for two Carrie Fisher big screen moments that will live in our hearts forever.

Best Kids Movies of 2016

top-10

I think most people would agree that 2016 was a pretty dismal year for many reasons. One thing that did bring joy, however, was the movies, and this year there was a rather magical selection of films for kids and families – in fact it was so good that for the first time ever in Movies4Kids’ history it was really hard to pick just 10 movies of the year.

So thank you to all the filmmakers, writers, actors, animators, and production crews who made some amazing movies that brightened up our lives in 2016 – and here are the best of the best (drumroll, please) – Movies4Kids Best Kids Movies Of The Year!

HONOURABLE MENTIONS:

monster_callsA Monster Calls – one of the best films I saw in 2016, this superb drama about grief and imagination opens on New Year’s Day. It’s so good it has already guaranteed itself a place on Movies4Kids list of films of 2017. Our review will be live on December 29th.

Ghostbusters – The original is still the best but this 21st century update, with its superb female lead cast, was still one of the most enjoyable movies of the summer.

Finding Dory – Number 11 on the list of films of the year, this was just as adorable as Finding Nemo and even more fun.

Eddie The Eagle – One for all the family, this boasted top performances from Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman, plus a great soundtrack. And it gave us new appreciation for anyone taking up such a dangerous-looking sport as ski jumping.

We’re looking forward to animated comedy Boss Baby next year, mainly because Alec Baldwin is providing the voice of the suit-wearing baby who disrupts the life of seven-year-old Tim. Joining him on vocal duties are Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel and Lisa Kudrow, and you’ll be able to see the movie in April 2017. In the meantime, check out the new trailer:

Gru, his wife Lucy and his adopted kids Margo, Edith and Agnes return – with the Minions, of course – for this adventure that introduces new villain Balthazar Bratt (voiced by Trey Parker, of South Park fame), a former child star with his own despicable plan.
