ET’s bike ride is top Universal movie moment

To celebrate 100 years of Universal Pictures, a poll of over 1000 British cinemagoers has revealed your top movie moments from their films and here’s the list:

1) ET – Elliot and ET’s bike ride in the moonlight

2) Jaws – ‘You’re gonna need a bigger boat’

3) Back To The Future – Lightning striking the clock tower to power the DeLorean time machine

4) Gladiator – ‘My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius’

5) Mamma Mia – the Dancing Queen singalong

6) Spartacus – ‘I’m Spartacus!’

7) American Pie – Jason Biggs as Jim gets intimate with an apple pie

8) To Kill A Mockingbird – Atticus Finch’s closing argument

9) Billy Elliot – Billy dancing through the streets

10) Bridget Jones Diary – Hugh Grant and Colin Firth’s ‘fight’ scene

While I don’t agree with some of the newer ones (especially Mamma Mia), it’s great to see some classic movies in there, especially To Kill A Mockingbird and Spartacus.

There’s also a list of the 10 Most Loved Universal Characters:

1) Marty McFly – Back To The Future

2) Jason Bourne – the Bourne trilogy

3) ET

4) Bridget Jones

5) Shaun – Shaun Of The Dead

6) Oskar Schindler – Schindler’s List

7) The Blues Brothers

8) Maximus – Gladiator

9) Spartacus

10) ‘The Dude’ Lebowski – The Big Lebowski

Happy anniversary, Universal!

How I will be celebrating the Olympics…

I was never very good at sport. And all those years of cross-country and athletics at school only really honed my calligraphy skills as I forged my mother’s signature to get out of whatever PE torture our overly enthusiastic teacher inflicted upon us. So it probably comes as no surprise that I’m not overly excited about the forthcoming Olympics in London – in fact, as a way of avoiding all the endless coverage of sweaty runners, swimmers and the like, I am going to rewatch the sporty movies I mention in this week’s article for the National…

Warm Up For The Olympics

Avengers Assemble! (and cute fuzzy things)

This week sees the release of Avengers Assemble, the movie which brings Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Incredible Hulk and Black Widow together in one movie. And, let me tell you, it’s terrific. For the full movies4kids review, click here.

And there’s more! Fans of documentaries get not one, but two this week: the Disney nature movie African Cats and the lovely Being Elmo, about Kevin Clash, the man behind the cute fuzzy red muppet.

Pop over to movies4kids for all the new releases, including DVDs and Blu-Ray, and also take a look at this trailer for Being Elmo below, and try not to say ‘aaawwww’…

Hello there! I’ve been on holiday for two weeks but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy… check out the movies4kids website for reviews of Battleship and The Cabin In The Woods (both ones for grown-ups or those with teens in the house).

Also, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sailing and sinking of the Titanic, I have written a feature for The National about the other Titanic movies you can watch if you’ve had enough of the James Cameron one. Check out the article here: Titanic

Mirror Mirror and new DVDs!

It’s a busy Monday (and my birthday) over at Movies4Kids today. The Snow White adventure Mirror Mirror is in cinemas from today, and Alvin And The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked and Hugo are both out on DVD and Blu-Ray!

Go along to the main Movies4Kids website here for all the reviews. And check out a trailer for Mirror Mirror below:
